A Clinical Study of Cerebral Infarction

Abstract
An analysis has been made of the clinical manifestations in one hundred and twenty-one cases of cerebral infarction diagnosed by compeuterized tomography between January 1989 and December 1991 at the Seoul Red Cross Hospital.
@ES The results were as follows:
@EN 1) The ratio between male and female was 1.12:1 in cerebral infarction.
2) The age distribution in cerebral infarction disclosed the sixth decade was most predominant followed by the fifth and seventh in turn.
3) The hypertension was present in 66.9%, diabetes mellitus was 25.6% and past history of cerebrovascular disease was 39.7%.
4) Among the symptoms and signs at the onset of cerebral infarction was hemiplegia and hemiparesis in 29.8%, mental change in 19.8%, slurred speech in 16.5%, headache and dizziness in 16.5% and paresthesia in 7.4% in turn.
5) Involved vessels of cerebral infarction include middle cerebral artery terrytory 89 cases (73.6%), posterior cerebral artery terrytory 7 cases(5.8%), multiple cerebral artery terrytory 21 cases(17.4%), vertebrobasilar system 1 cases(0.8%),
and
anterior cerebral artery terrytory and anterior choroidal artery terrytory 3 cases(2.5%) respectively.
Lacular infarction was 18 cases(14.9%).
6) The mortality rate of cerebral infarction was 10.8%.
